Awkward Ghost

Awkward Ghost is a project started from some fun sketches and paintings I did during lockdown featuring the character of a ghost wearing sunglasses. I painted him in various everyday scenes, always looking awkward. After showing them friends and family, people told me they would love to hang them on their wall.

With this in mind, I worked with my dad in creating an ecommerce website where my paintings can be purchased as prints. In addition, I created an identity for the Awkward Ghost brand – a fun logo which again had the ghost and sunglasses. I added this to the products on offer, creating merch for the brand like mugs and bags. The items are produced by a print-on-demand company, so I learnt about dropshipping and print on demand.

To promote the brand, I created an Instagram account and took photos of myself wearing a sheet and sunglasses in various locations in the town I live in. This was really fun.

(Sur)Realsim

I love drawing shading, and I experimented by creating a series of sketches that were ultra-real but of surreal things – like watermelon lips and Jeff Koons balloon sculptures. I used Arteza crayons on textured brown card. I think they work really well as a set. I then had fun putting them onto mockups of products such as clothing.

Jenny Stitches

Another project done whilst working for a real client for my dads company. A local fabric and sewing shop wanted 3 new logos for new parts of their business. These logos needed to use the same colours as her current logo, but look different enough too. The would be for new delivery, social media and social club projects.

I helped choose different fonts and symbols to go with each logo, and experimented with where to use her main colours of pink, purple and white.

To make the logos really work, we mocked them up onto things like mugs and labels. This reallt helped see which logos would work well in real life.

It was a very fun project and I liked working with a local business. She now uses the three chosen logos regularly in her business.

Furness Watch & Jewellery

In the summer school holiday I sat with my dad who runs his own design agency and helped out on projects. One of these was to redesign a logo and brand for local business who sell watches and jewellery. I created this logo design and then learnt how to apply it to mockup of things like bags and shop signs. Unfortunately the logo was never actually chosen but I really enjoyed the project and learning about branding.

Mimi Mindset

Whilst working on projects with my dad during the summer holidays, I helped on this logo design for a mental health coach. She wanted to incorporate a Japanese letter in her logo. I did several different layouts and colour schemes. She was very happy with the end logo.
